NORBERT HACKL, PLS
PRESIDENT & SENIOR LAND SURVEYOR

Norbert Hackl is the President and Founding Principal at Alpine Surveying & Engineering. He is from Vienna, Austria and has lived in Bozeman since 1992. He graduated from Hoehere Technische Lehranstalt, a technical school for civil engineering in Vienna. He then received a First Diploma in Civil and Environmental Engineering from the University of Agriculture and Rural Engineering in Vienna. He later attended Montana State University and completed 21 semester hours in advanced land surveying and civil engineering courses to receive formal education in these disciplines in the United States.
Norbert has over 25 years of land surveying experience and has been a business owner since 2002. He obtained his license as a Professional Land Surveyor in Montana in 2001. He has been a member of the Montana Association of Registered Land Surveyors (MARLS) since 1997 and was President of the South Central Chapter from 2019 to 2023. He has been a member of the National Society of Professional Surveyors since 2006.
Norbert is currently Vice President of the Board of Trustees of the Fort Ellis Volunteer Fire Department and has been on the Board since 2010. Norbert has been a member of the Gallatin County Planning and Zoning Commission since 2020.

MORGAN BILLS, PLS
VICE PRESIDENT & SENIOR LAND SURVEYOR

Morgan Bills is the Vice President and a Land Surveyor at Alpine Surveying & Engineering, and has been a member of the team since 2015. He is from Vermont and has lived in Bozeman since 2007. He graduated from Montana State University with a B.S. in Construction Engineering Technology with a minor in Land Surveying. He has a broad range of land surveying experience, is proficient with Auto CAD Civil 3D and Carlson Survey, and has also worked in construction management.
Morgan has been a member of the Montana Association of Registered Land Surveyors since 2015.

ETHAN COTE, PE
VICE PRESIDENT & SENIOR CIVIL ENGINEER

Ethan Cote is the Vice President and the civil team leader at Alpine Surveying & Engineering. Ethan is originally from New Hampshire, where he attended the University of New Hampshire and earned a B.S. in Civil Engineering with a minor in Environmental Conservation. He has over 11 years of civil engineering experience on a broad range of projects, and has been working as a civil engineer in Bozeman since 2016.
Ethan started his own civil firm, White Mountain Engineering, in 2022, and after several successful years decided to merge with Alpine in 2024 to be able to expand the range of services he could offer his clients.

DREW KIRSCH, PE
CIVIL ENGINEER & PROJECT MANAGER

Drew Kirsch is a Civil Engineer and Project Manager at Alpine Surveying & Engineering. Drew has lived in Bozeman since 2009 and graduated from Montana State University with a B.S. in Civil Engineering in 2018.
Drew has 8 years of progressive experience in commercial and residential site design and subdivision engineering. He has extensive experience in municipal water and sewer system design, as well as road and stormwater design. He also has experience with commercial and residential grading, including Low Impact Development (LID) stormwater management. He obtained his Professional Engineering License in 2022 and is currently licensed in Montana.

JULIENE SINCLAIR, PE
CIVIL ENGINEER & PROJECT MANAGER

Juliene Sinclair has been a member of the team at Alpine Surveying & Engineering since 2023. She graduated from Humboldt State University with an undergraduate degree in Environmental Resources Engineering and started in the civil sector after she moved to Bozeman in 2013.
She specializes in commercial, light industrial and residential site development, and is proficient with AutoCAD Civil 3D and Carlson Civil.

TOM MICHALEK, PG
SENIOR HYDROGEOLOGIST
​
Tom Michalek is a Senior Hydrogeologist at Alpine Surveying & Engineering and is a registered Professional Geologist in Idaho since Montana currently has no geologist registration. Tom grew up in Nebraska and has a B.S. in Geology from the University of Wyoming and an M.S. in Geology from the University of Montana. He has lived in Billings, Missoula, Bozeman, and now Butte.
He has over 30 years experience working in water supply development, water research, and resource characterization. As a water rights consultant, Tom has advised clients on strategic water planning and conducted agency negotiations. Additionally, Tom prepares permit and transfer applications, claims of beneficial use, and water right extensions for commercial, municipal, and agricultural water users.
Tom is longtime member of the National Groundwater Association and has been active in several state water user groups. He is a Past President of the Montana Chapter of the American Water Resources Association and a current board member of the Gallatin Watershed Council.

EVAN VINGER, EIT
CIVIL ENGINEER IN TRAINING

Evan Vinger is a Civil Engineer in Training at Alpine Surveying & Engineering. He is a 3rd generation Bozeman native and graduated from Montana State University with a B.S. in Civil Engineering.
Evan has more than 10 years of experience in installation of on-site wastewater and water treatment facilities, along with over 3 years of general site and wastewater system design with Vinger Excavation and Septic. He also has experience in the construction industry where he learned insights in construction process and installation. Evan is proficient using Carlson Civil Suite. Evan will be working toward obtaining a PE license in Montana.

Jacob Grubisch is a Civil Engineer at Alpine Surveying & Engineering, and has been a member of the team since 2024. Originally from Minnesota, Jake has lived in Bozeman since 2016. He graduated from Montana State University with a B.S. in Civil Engineering.
Jake is primarily focused on Engineering Design for City Site Plans and Subdivision Infrastructure. Jake is currently working towards obtaining his PE License in Montana.

Liam Durkin is a Civil Engineer in Training at Alpine Surveying & Engineering. He was born and raised in Bozeman and graduated from Montana State University in 2020 with a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering.

Liam has been working in Civil Engineering since 2022 and has experience working in residential and commercial site design, subdivision platting and county permitting. He also has experience working in construction primarily related to paving and pouring concrete. Liam is proficient using Civil 3D and is working toward obtaining a PE license in Montana.

Evan Lewis is a Survey Crew Chief at Alpine Surveying & Engineering.
Evan has been working on a survey field crew since 2018. He started his survey career in Utah before moving to Bozeman 2021. He has a wide range of experience in operating both GPS and conventional survey equipment on a variety of project types ranging form construction surveys to boundary retracements and subdivisions. Evan currently holds a FAA drone pilot license and is performing field data collection with our survey drone.
Evan is working toward obtaining his Land Surveying license in Montana.

MICHAEL DEEN
SURVEY CREW CHIEF

Michael Deen is a Survey Crew Chief at Alpine Surveying & Engineering. He has lived in Montana since 2000 and graduated from Montana State University with a B.S. in Civil Engineering.
​
Michael has 10 years of experience in the Surveying and Engineering fields. Before joining the Alpine team, he worked at Sibanye Stillwater Mining Company as a Lead Surveyor with a primary focus on underground tunneling. Prior to Sibanye Stillwater, he worked at the Montana Department of Transportation as a Civil Engineer Specialist managing and analyzing road conditions across Montana.
Michael is working toward obtaining his Land Surveying license in Montana.

KENT LOCKMAN
SURVEY CREW CHIEF

Kent Lockman is a Survey Crew Chief at Alpine Surveying & Engineering. He has lived in Montana since 2015 and graduated from the University of Wisconsin with a B.S. in Biomechanics. He is currently also completing an Associates Degree in Land Surveying from Flathead Valley Community College.
Kent has over eight years of survey experience here in the Gallatin Valley working as a Crew Chief on a variety of project types ranging from boundary retracements and subdivisions, constructions surveys, floodplain and ALTA surveys, and mining claims. He is experienced in operating both GPS and conventional survey equipment as well as 3D Lidar scanners.
Kent is working toward obtaining his FAA drone pilots license and his Land Surveying license in Montana.

GEORGE LONGWORTH

George Longworth is a Civil Drafter at Alpine Surveying & Engineering. He is also a valuable member of the survey field crew. George relocated to Bozeman from Florida in 2020.
George gained experience in Florida as a Civil CAD Technician as well as working on a survey field crew.
George is proficient using Carlson Civil Suite. He is also skilled using various types of survey equipment.
